Jacquelyn - I've been doing 1-2 CFE cycling WODs a week for a little while as well. Definitely ass-kickers!

Speaking of cycling... TdF is imminent!!! Funny ESPN article about their 9000 calorie a day diets. Definitely not paleo: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=stein%2F090701

Today is my rest day but this WOD looks like fun. :( I'll have to make it up sometime soon.

Pat, I was thinking more about running than swimming... I sink lol, I know the strokes but my form is subpar and I'm just not built for swimming lol, but I'd be down to experiment! Mark- I'd be intersted to know what the CFE cycling is like, do u use a stationary bike?

  • reply
Faith - Jul 02 2009 - 09:16 AM
Mel I could bring my laptop in if that would work, I think it's a great idea. Jacquelyn, if you have a bike it's best to just buy a trainer. Stationary bikes are ok, but it's so much better if you can use your own so that you can shift gears on your bike and work with your riding position.
  • reply
Koy - Jul 02 2009 - 09:29 AM

Mel - Kipping chin above bar pullups

Bobby - YES. Kickball would be epic.

Quick Zone Diet Questions: 1. Can fish oil pills count as a fat serving? 2. Almonds and other nuts are high in fat, but also have some carbs and protein. Do I count these? 3. Eggs - yolk or no yolk? btw...I'm on day 3 of following the zone diet and still need to learn a lot.
  • reply
Mark - Jul 02 2009 - 09:32 AM

Faith is pretty much right. I've got a trainer that I use most of the time for intervals. As much as I hate using it, it's still better than dealing with traffic when you can barely see straight!

That said, if you have the big bucks to shell out for a *real* stationary bike, those are super nice. You can adjust them so they match your regular setup exactly. Like one of these: http://www.saris.com/p-315-pro-300pt.aspx mmmmmm I want.

If I'm doing a TT WOD I like to head to WRL (I live about 3 miles away) super early or really late when there's not a lot of pedestrian traffic.

Bobby, I'm in. As I told Sammy the other night, I was a varsity wrestler in high school (you think I'm slender now....I wrestled the 103# weight class my freshman year), so mud wrestling would be cool....orrrr, uh, softball, flag football, dodgeball, etc.

Dragon Sam Z - I'll bring the dvd tomorrow am. I think I might watch it a second time :) Koy - Rules clarification. Can we come to a second class and try to beat our own pull up number?
  • reply
Jacquelyn - Jul 02 2009 - 09:40 AM
Faith, thanks that's good to know but I'm not looking to make that kind of investment right now, besides,I don't even have a bike worth putting on a trainer, the bike I have now, I've had since middle school, it's a hybrid road/mountain bike and weighs like 40lbs lol, I've got my eye on a nice carbon though! I wanna watch the movie on Thursday!!
  • reply
Carin - Jul 02 2009 - 09:40 AM
Jacquelyn - not exactly CFE, but if you're interested in distance running, the Dallas Running Club has a super low-cost distance training program (fall program starts next week), complete with coaches and pace groups. I'm planning on working it in with CF, along with some CFE workouts for swim/bike.

Mark - Jul 02 2009 - 09:44 AM

Jacquelyn - gotta start with something! My first real mountain bike was an absolute tank and I beat it up every ride. Replaced broken parts with downhill parts so it probably ended up close to 35lbs. :) My bikes now are a lot nicer but I still regret selling that one! I'm too worried about breaking something now to have fun jumping off stuff haha.

  • reply
Faith - Jul 02 2009 - 09:48 AM
I have a friend that does triathlons on a mountain bike. I have no idea how she does it, but she's probably in much better shape than those of us that use road/TT bikes. I'd love to get something I could use on trails, although I think that could be a disaster, I'm a hazard on pavement as it is.
  • reply
Jacquelyn - Jul 02 2009 - 09:52 AM
Mark- I have NO intention of selling this bike... it's like my first child lol, I ABSOLUTELY detest vehicles and this bike is a tank, I've laid it down pry over a 1000 times lol. However, last weekend I was riding a Tarmec elite compact... I have been lusting since! http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=39251&eid=115 Faith- Yea my bike is kinda just a huge tease casue it doesn't have shocks! I need to work on that I think, cause it can do some trails but no real mountain biking

Yea, Wayne, I heard tomorrow's wod is actually FOUR wods in one day, so you should be all set.

Jer - Scott's third question was not a yes or no question.

Scott, I would eat the yolk unless you have high cholesterol. You can still get lean protein out of the egg whites, but the yolk has a lot more nutrients...and all the saturated fat/cholesterol.

I'm sure someone is about to disagree with me....To yolk or not to yolk!?

  • reply

Speaking of coconut water. I grabbed some of the Goya brand at the store last week and it was kind of disgusting. What brands do you guys get? Is the taste supposed to make you question whether it has gone bad? Is coconut water what I'm supposed to get, or is it coconut juice, or coconut milk? Does the kind you get have little chunks of coconut floating around? Mine did. And are you supposed to make a weird face after you drink it? I did. Let me know the deets on this miraculous water. or juice/milk.

Sam - thanks for hanging out and putting me through the tabata sit-ups. I remember when I started I was getting around 7/8 and I asked Mel how many she did. She said she tries to get 11 every round. Today my lowest was 11, highest was 14! Thanks for the pep talk too, Sam, always makes me smile and brings a tear to my eye :) It was nice working out with the noon crew today. Thanks for the push Grant, Dee, Jamie, Dave, Wade. Jamie - awesome work on getting way more pullups than you thought! and great working out with you today! Chase - sorry for running my elbow into you as you ran past with that huge bag over your shoulders. You made it look like it weighed nothing!

For reference sake: 8 dead hang, 9 kipping (both with thin white band) Was surprised to actually have forearm failure be the limiter on these. 2:17 on the 100 jumping - bicep failure..
