Bench Press

Work up to a heavy single

"Nate"

AMRAP in 20 minutes:
2 Muscle-ups
4 Handstand push-ups
8 Kettlebell swings, 2 pood

Chief Petty Officer Nate Hardy was killed Sunday February 4th 2008 during combat operations in Iraq. Nate is survived by his wife, Mindi, and his infant son Parker.

Post bench press loading and total number of rounds (partial and complete) to comments.
Congrats to Coach Tyler for his performance in the 2010 SWEAT Indoor 2K.  Tyler won his division, and also pr'd his 2K with an ASTOUNDING time of 6:37 (outside of our programming, the guy didn't do anything row specific until three weeks leading up to the meet...).  Just goes to show the limitless possibilities we're given with the training we endure.
Make sure to eat a balanced protein/carb/fat meal 45-60 minutes post workout.

The MU progression takes some getting used to. 8 and two/thirds rounds, 20# DBs, 53# KB

  • reply
JR - Feb 08 2010 - 12:12 PM

160# Bench
9 2/3 rds. with 2pood KB, HSPUs with 2 mats, and MU very scaled. Gotta get stronger!

  • reply
Scott - Feb 08 2010 - 12:26 PM

205# Bench, ran out of time to push higher.
10 or 11 rounds - 70#, 1 abmat, and moved from MU to MU progression on round 3. I could really feel that extra 5 pounds I gained yesterday on the MU.

I know some of the hardcore crossfitters partake in endeavors such as intermittent fasting and sleep deprivation, but I have found something far more difficult. Intermittent sloth. Basically take 48 hours and stay off your feet except to go to the bathroom. Amazing how tough it was. Now I am allowed to walk around and go to work, but no exercise for a whole week. And, here you give us Nate, probably my favorite WOD of all time.

I am sad.

Guy - Feb 08 2010 - 12:57 PM

Travis, similar story here. I took Thursday-Sunday off to let my tendon heal ... it is amazing how bad it made me feel. I need this activity on a daily basis. I can't imagine 48 hours of absolutely no activity followed by an entire week of taking it easy. Good luck!

160# press (PR)

Bench press: 125#
lost track of rounds, think it was 11 or 12, MU progression, 2 abmat HSPUs, 33#KB. This one was solid work, next to Chase doing his crown to ground HSPU...wow is all I can say, it was amazing! Travis, sorry to hear you are out for a week, hope you are better soon.

  • reply
Mel - Feb 08 2010 - 02:53 PM

205# bench
7 2/3 rounds, 2 abmats, 53#kb, banded pullups. Didn't have time to get the last round of handstand pushups but probably couldn't have gotten them anyway.

Thanks Ronnie and Chris for the coaching on the bench press. I feel ready to push that max way up on the next go-around, maybe not the day after a Super Bowl bender . . .

Jumped to 245 and F - but I am not that far of.

  • reply
Carin - Feb 08 2010 - 10:34 PM

115# felt good, 125# was insurmountable.
Right at 8 rounds of Nate, with 3:1 kipping pulls and blue-band dips, 20# DB strict press (should've maybe gone heavier?) and 35# KB. Limiting factor: pull-ups, only 1-2 at a time :( Still feeling sluggish.

Calves - Feb 09 2010 - 07:51 PM

205# lifetime PR on Bench
15 rounds from toes, two pads and 1.5pood.

Big for me is doing 20 minutes of work and every set of hspu (4 per set) started with two reps without dropping. So I started with 4 on each set, then 2 and 2, then 2+1+1
